I can tick recycle off my list but I hadn’t even heard of upcycle before, that was until I came across www.etsy.com.

Etsy.com is a website that you can buy and sell handmade items such as clothes, furtinure, food and much more.

Whilst browsing the clothes section, I found items labelled as upcycled. Intrigued by this I looked up the term upcycle - taking something old and no longer used and making it into something new. E.g - Taking an old pair of jeans and making it into a new handbag.

This sounds like fun so now along with fair trade and ethical clothes, I’m adding recycled and upcycled items into my new wardrobe.

Next stop charity shops and carboots!! I will showcase any of the items I try to upcycle!!

Another good way to recycle old clothes is via www.posh-swap.com. They are a website that allows you to put on items of clothes you no longer want and either sell or trade them in. Not only do they have a webiste they also hold posh-swap parties, check out their websites for dates and places. I hope to attend my first posh-swap party soon.

B-fair’s featured item – Memphis Jacket.

The outer lining of the jacket is made from old plastic bottles that have been spun into yarns and woven to create a one of a kind fabric.

Here are a few essential items to start your wardrobe for Autumn

Starting from the inside out!

1. People tree’s relaxed bra, thong and hipster knickers in pink, white or black.

2.People tree’s stripey boat neck top.

3. Kuyichi’s roxette high waist jeans.

All the above can be purchased at www.b-fair.co.uk.

Whilst browsing online I came across some lovely vegan shoes by a company called Melissa, teamed with the above items and you would get a fabulously chic look, alternatively if you fancy a more casual day time look, team the items with some Ethletic eco converse style trainers.

When I started working at b-fair in July I didn’t realise quite how much of an impact the shop and its clothes [...]

When I started working at b-fair in July I didn’t realise quite how much of an impact the shop and its clothes would have on me.

My reason for loving the clothes is that they are ethical and fair trade; therefore they make you feel good wearing them. Not only does it make your conscience feel clear, the clothes feel good against your skin. These are two great reasons to buy ethical clothes.

Two months down the line and it has dawned on me the only items of clothes I have bought since working in the shop, are ethical. It made me realise that, obviously my subconscious is stopping me from buying mainstream clothes. So why not give myself a personal mission to convert my wardrobe from mainstream to ethical, starting with clothes, then bags, shoes, accessories……… then hopefully I will be well on my way to becoming a fully fledged Eco Princess!!!!!!

So my mission brief is – every new purchase of ethical clothing, I will pick an item out of my current wardrobe (like for like) and either give it to charity or take it to a clothes bank.

I will be giving you regular update on my newest purchases. Also I’ll keep you updated with any offers b-fair are having.
