Sweet like sugar….

lush foot lotion

I must admit that I like sugar in my tea, naughty I know !! When I came across this as an alternative I was really chuffed and ordered some for myself to use in my tea. (Maybe this will keep the dentist happy)

Not only is it completely natural using only fruit as the ingredients, making it a much healthier option. You can use in it loads of recipes, cakes, cookies, on toast or porridge and much much more. It’s diabetic and vegan friendly and GM free and gluten free. It’s also made in the UK.

Beautiful and fair trade.

boots -fair tradeIt feels like fair trade products are sneaking in here, there and everywhere, which is fabulous. For example you can now get many fairtrade products from Boots, yep thats Boots the high street brand.

Not only can you get a varied  range of body butters, lip balms, body scrubs as pictured above, you can also get body wash and bath cream. They also do gift sets and travel sets.

lush foot lotionLush also a high street brand have a fair trade foot lotion. Hopefully the sales of this will encourage more of their products to become fair trade.

If you fancy something different you can find on the fairtrade website www.fairtrade.org.uk what other companies stock fair trade beauty products.

I will continue on searching  for more beautiful fair trade or ethical up and coming products.

Bamboo on the green carpet….

bamboo suit

Continuing the green carpet challenge, Livia is looking stunning in the bamboo suit by Linda Loudermilk. In previous posts I have talked about the benefits of bamboo and how cool it is.

I love the over sized collar and wide legged trousers. The silk bow tie around the waist gives it a gorgeous finish.

Livia finished the outfit with gold accessories, a borrowed clutch and earrings. Gives it that bit of glitz and glam just what the outfit needed for the premiere look.

Here are a couple of other outfits that were possibilities for the premiere.

Both dresses are beautiful ethically made items.

Another ethical fashion find….

organic jeans1

organic jeans2 I have fallen in love with the jeans on the left, they are from  www.machja.com. The jacket in the picture on the right is from the same place.

The clothes on their website are really well designed. The clothes are simple and very wearable, a great quality in clothes.

Machja’s value are great, the call it respect which is very appropriate. Here is what they respect….

Respect for the Individual: We abide by Fair Trade principles, ensure ethical business practices with respect for human rights in the work place and guarantee quality, safe, and healthy working conditions to our producers.

Ethical fashion can be so pretty especially on the red carpet!

emmmmm

Here are two celebrities that are very into ethical fashion. Livia as we all know is doing the green carpet challenge. She is talking to Lily Cole who has a knitwear range at North Circular an ethical brand. Lily is wearing very fashionable organic leather trousers. She looks fabulous in them but then it helps her legs are super long!

Livia’s dress is a gorgeous colour. The designer Sara Shepherd originally British, she now lives and works in LA. She dislikes disposable fashion and wants to create designs that will last, she also follows the rules of producing her clothes to the ethical and sustainable standards.

Colin Firth has been nominated for an Oscar ! The biggest of big rad carpet awards. I can not wait to see what Livia’s outfit will be : )

Young ethical fashion!

You can now buy Emma Watson’s wonderful ethical range on People Tree’s website. I’ve picked a few of my favourite’s and thought I’d show you them all : )

I love the little hot pant shorts, they will be fabulous for the summer. You can team them with soooo much, a simple vest top or dress them up with a pretty foral or glittery top and team with a blazer and pumps to finish the look.

The second picture I chose I adore all the items! The badge on the blazer is a separate purchase so you can have the blazer plain, but the badge is quirky!!

emmmmmThe logo is great and will get people attention.

Another great pert to this range is the price, all very reasonable. The shorts only £28, the blazer £65 and the badge £14.

Ethical dress No 2 for Mrs Firth

2nd dress

Here is the beautiful Livia in dress number 2. It’s made by US designer Casey Larkin’s label, Mr Larkin. The fabulous part is its  made from milk fibre!!!!

Disaster – Imagine your a few hours from attending an awards ceremony (or just a big night out for the less famous of us!) and you find your dress has been altered but it doesn’t fit? Oh no it has been altered wrong ! Eek what do you do ? Well if your Livia you use your status and get a top director’s tailor to come to the rescue. Livia found herself in the above situation when she was getting ready Screen Actors Guild awards. She had wanted the dress altered because it was originally a low cut dress but somehow in the mix of it all, it hadn’t quite gone to plan. Luckily all was well and she got to go to the ball…..

Here ‘s the little bit about the interesting part…..Milk fibre is a sustainable fibre. The fibre is milk casein protein and spun into yarn. Apparently it’s super soft, I can’t wait to be able to feel that. I find that my organic cotton tees are sooooo soft, so I could imagine how this would feel against the skin. Designer Casey Larkin also uses vintage sequins and trimmings to costumize the dresses. It’s great to know that there are designers that are ethical aware out there, I think they need to shout louder and let everyone know.

accessories blogLivia accessorised her fabulous dress with Stella McCartney ethical shoes which are super pretty and a gold handbag which is made from non-leather materials and hand embroidered, vegan and eco friendly.  She was originally going to be using her Luciana clutch made from can ring pulls, it’s beautiful but the gold would have clashed !! not something you can have on the red carpet.  Her jewellery are vintage pieces.

pull ring bag

Colin  Firth (Livia’s husband) has been nominated for best actor at the BAFTA’s. All awards are great but the BAFTA’s are the biggy. So this will no doubt be a dress to go all out on. What will it be this time vintage, upcycled or sustainable fabric ??? What ever Livia decides I am sure it will be beautiful.

1st of Livia’s ‘green’ dresses…..

livia 1st

Livia’s first dress is a re-purposed Christiana Couture wedding dress. Here she is wearing it with a a simple black fabric belt and it is suddenly transformed from a wedding gown to a beautiful and very appropriate dress for the red carpet.

I can’t wait to see what is next : )

Colin firth’s wife Livia’s GREEN carpet challenge!

Livia has set herself an amazing challenge for the awards season. She is currently the creative director of Eco an ethical Livia - colin firths wife and sustainable boutique on Chiswick High Road in London, so being ‘green’ is something she is already associated with.

Her challange is to dress only in ethical fashion clothes for all her trips to the red carpet.

I’ve had a little search and here are a few possibilities I would choice if i was the lucky one on the red carpet!

clothes for red carpetHere I have picked a dress made by Minna – it’s made from Scottish lace and fair trade silk dress, the shoes are made by beyond skin, both the necklace and earrings are made by Fifi Bijoux and the tights (always good in the cold weather) are made by Sternlein.  However if I was feeling a little daring I would lose the tights and have lovely red lips to match the red strap in the shoes.

I found that there are more designers out there that are creating ethical dresses for example – eco gowns by Leila Hafzi. The dress is a beautiful creation and would look fabulous on the red carpet.
